Best Hairstyles for Curly Hair

  • April 26, 2017

We encourage our clients with curly hair to Embrace Your Curls. There is no need to straighten your hair using products, hair dryers, or flat irons. Curly hair is beautiful so use some of these tips to find a hairstyle that works for your hair. Of course, your stylist will help you find the best style and teach you how to manage it daily.

It starts by knowing your curl type. There is no reason to fight your curls.

Also, be sure to consider the shape of your face. That photo of the celebrity in the magazine may look great but if your face is shaped differently, that desired style might not be for you.

Here are some suggestions for hairstyles for curly hair:

Above the shoulder
Keeping your hair at this length keeps your hair from too much friction with your shoulder leading to frizziness. This also avoids your curls looking less curly and wavier because they are being pulled by the weight of your hair. We find that above the shoulder works really well for thick hair and/or tight curls.

Layers
Yes, you can have layers with curly hair. Often the layers give your curls the freedom and space to maintain their beautiful loops along with some bounce. The right layered cut can give you the wash and go hair you’ve been dreaming about. A lot can be done with variation in length to add interest.

Bangs
Often considered a no-no for curly hair, bangs can work well with the right type of curl and cut. This is a discussion to have with your stylist but it’s not completely out of the question for the right hair.

Ponytail?
If you must wear it up occasionally, go ahead and let some of the face-framing curls rest naturally. Or if your hair is long enough, how about a low ponytail to keep the hair away from your face but still highlight your curls.

Watch what your hair wants to do naturally and choose a part that compliments your curl type and face before pulling your hair back.

Important Tip: A stylist experienced with curly hair will cut your hair when it’s dry to keep the guessing out of what the end results will be.
