Fine hair can look flat, weighed down, or oily. There are lots of products promising volume but too many products weigh down your hair. Let’s start with the basics with the following fine hair care tips.
You want to wash your hair as soon as it gets oily. However, just because it is less tolerant of skipping washes than thicker hair, that doesn’t mean you need to wash it every day. It will depend on what types of products you use and how you treat your hair.
In fact, before you wash your hair, gently massage your scalp which will increase blood flow and help to begin the exfoliation of your pores that may hold excess oil.
Another option is to use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up every few weeks.
You’ve probably tried a dry shampoo. Have you applied it at night to give it more time to absorb the excess oil in your hair? The tossing and turning at night may even give you more texture and volume the next day.
And you may not need conditioning after every shampoo. When you condition, try conditioning the bottom of your hair while avoiding the roots. Find out how to determine what kind of hydration your hair needs here in this post on conditioners.
After your shower, gently blot your hair dry with an old t-shirt. This is gentler than a towel.
Completely dry your hair after washing. Start by working your fingers through your hair avoid using a brush until your hair is mostly dry. Choose a natural bristle brush versus a hard metal or plastic bristle brush that can snag your hair and cause breakage.
Use a warm or cool hair dryer setting with a concentrator to focus the air.
